EBC Trek: General Information

Here is our daily itinerary for  EBC trek with elevation and trekking time for each day. For detailed information, please visit Day by Day account.

Day 01:
  • Kathmandu (1400m) to Lukla (2860m)
    Flight time: 30 minutes
  • Lukla (2860m) to Phakding (2800m)
    Trek time: 3 to 4 hours trek

In the Morning we flew from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,800m). The Everest Base Camp trail leads north from the airstrip to the edge of Lukla Plateau. After, an easy walk through several villages, it reaches to Phakding (2,800m).

Day 02:
  • Phakding (2800) to Namche Bazaar (3,440m)
  • Trek time: 6-8 hours.

We followed the Dudh Kosi river passing through several villages and reached to Jorsale (2800m). After lunch, we again followed Dudh Kosi river to a double suspension bridge. From here it is a steep trail through Namche Hill reaching Namche Bazaar. Namche Bazaar is the Sherpa capital and administrative center of Khumbu region and is one of the biggest trading post.

Day 03:
  • Namche Bazaar (3,440m) to Hotel Everest View (3880m) and Khumjung (3,790m)
  • Trek time: 7-8 hours including breaks, lunch, and visit to a cultural museum

In the morning we will climb up to Hotel Everest View (3880m), Shyangboche, for acclimatization. From the top of Shyangboche, you can see (weather permitting) view of Mt. Everest (8848m), Ama Dablam (6856m), Themserku (6608m), Nuptse (7879m), and Lotse (8383m). From there we visited Khumjung and a cultural museum on our way back.

Day 04:
  • Namche Bazaar (3440m) to Tengboche (3,870m)
  • Trek time: 6-8 hours

From Namche Bazaar the trail lead to Kyanjuma and passing several villages and a beautiful pine forest up to Phunki Thanga. After that, trail rapidly ascents to Tengboche.

Day 05:
  • Tengboche (3879m) to Dingboche (4,410m)
  • Trek time: 6-8 hours.

From Tengpoche, the steep and muddy trail descends to Dibuche (3734m) throughbirch, conifers, and Rhododendron forest. After a long walk passing Dibuche and Pangboche (3901) it reaches Dinboche.

Day 06:
  • Dingboche (4410m) to Nagarjuna peak (5000m) acclimatization hike
  • Trek time: 6-8 hours (round trip with breaks)

We hiked to Nagarjuna peak (or Nangkartshang Peak) for acclimatization. It was a difficult hike due to high elevation.

Day 07:
  • Dingboche (4410m) to Lobuche (4930m)
  • Trek time: 6-8 hours

The trail gradually inclines to Dugla (4,620m) after that it leads to a steep ascend to Memorial hill. From there it gradually reaches to Lobuche.

Day 08:
  • Lobuche (4930m) to Gorakshep (5160m) to Everest Base Camp (5360m)
  • Trek time: 3-4 hours to Gorakshep and 6-8 hours to the base camp roundtrip.

From Lobuche trail gradually ascends to Gorak shep. After lunch and hotel check in, we trek to the Everest Base Camp along the Khumbu Glacier and return to Gorakshep for night stay.

Day 9:
  • Gorakshep (5160m) to Kala Patthar (5545m) and fly to Kathmandu via Lukla.
  • Trek time: 5-7 hours round trip

We start very early in the morning to hike up to Kala Patthar (“Black Rock”) through boulder fields through a steep ascent. One of the most challenging day of the entire EBC trek. The sunrise views of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Pumori, and other Himalayan peaks are magnificent from Kala Patthar. After returning to Gorakshep to check out from the hotel and for lunch break, we take helicopter ride to Kathmandu via Pheriche & Lukla.
